Gelawi

When I was a kid the best toy shops around were Hamley’s in London, when I came back to Iraq in the eighties, the best toy shop ever in Baghdad was Al Gelawi in Sadoun Street.
Later the Gelawi shop was going down the drain due to the war and sanctions, in the late 1990’s the son’s of Mr. Gelawi opened a larger shop in the Mansour Area the where back in business and they returned to the number one toy shop in Baghdad, I visited the shop not two months ago to get my older daughter some Barbie gifts because it was her birthday, it was filled with lovely toys RC’s, dolls, puzzle games, bikes and lots of electronics and training devices.
The Gelawi Boys where running the business fine and work.
One of the Gelawi Boys was interviwed some time ago by the Baghdad Sattilite Channel he was asked why have you not shut down your shop and fled the country. He answered that where should I go? I love my country and I like to keep the smile on the Children’s faces.

Two weeks ago the three Gelawi Brothers were assassinated inside their Shop.

The Terrorist succeeded in closing the largest toy shop in Baghdad.

Way to go A..Holes

Many people have been robbed the smile. Desolation, grief and agony is all that's left.
I don't know what ticks terrorists off, but I know they don't enjoy living if there's anybody else enjoying as well.

A friend of mine posted this entry in her blog. I live in the middle, in good ole' Omaha, Nebraska where it's easy to forget and distance myself from the rest of the world.

It hurt my heart to read this. May God protect those that are gone, may good men protect those that are still here, and may the world rise up against those who created this evil and put an end to stories like this.

Evil is the only word to describe these monsters. Somehow they must be defeated.

My heartfelt feelings for all my Iraqi brothers and sisters who have been caught up in a maelstorm of greed and violence brought to them with the kind hospitality of the worlds greatest democracy. Fortunately you are all paying the price for a greater democracy and freedom. You are all blessed with carnage and mayhem for your betterment. The USA is your big brother bringing happiness and freedom for all..enjoy!!!
How do we revert this terrible unleashing of violence and destruction? How do we put the genie back in the bottle?? How do we equate this with McDOnalds, the Gap, and big SUVs??

we are apiraling out fo control
and unfortunately you are caught in the middle

i dont think all of this was worth the life of one single child....

every body should be presented to the US administration, and set at their feet
they should see, smell and feel what they are doing.........
while they play golf and talk banalities
we are far from where we should be
