Dates, the type that grows on Palm Trees

Well its the time of year, when the Dates need to be cut down of the trees and that includes my Palm trees, I so love Dates (the edible type) I posted some pictures of the process.

Cheers

I have asuggestion, yeah... sneak up behind one of those assholes with his face all wrapped up. Doesn't matter what variety, just pick one at random. If you're not good at sneaking you could just walk up and ask him for a cigarette and then hit him over the head with a brick while he's getting it out. Hope you can run fast though! Oh, and don't forget to wrap up your own face too :)

Congrats on quitting smoking. Tough habit to break. Have you quit before?

PS-disregard my smartass comment. It's too late for that.

Nice pictures ...
How many years does it take a
date palm to mature ???

Is the road to the airport secure enough that the Date Palms
that were cut down can be replaced
with smaller ones in the hope that
say in a few years the Roadway
can be restored to its pre-war
appearence ???

Congratulations! Giving up smoking is very hard indeed, but well worth it. My girlfriend went into shivers from withdrawal. Keep it up, it is the right thing to do!

Bill thanks i'm using these terrible
patches. its been 48 hours.

Craig, yes I have tried before about 12 years ago for forth days,as for the canary island palm trees, yes the look simmilar except for the quantity of dates.

anony, these pictures are of of one tree that my grandfater planted back in 1979 they have matured since 1989.

bruno, thank you I really hope it would work.

Rubin, although you have not posted a comment yet but I have a feeling your going to start another riot with Bruno.

Aaaahhhhh Zappy, early last summer, when things in Iraq were just pure shit instead of today's macabre hell, the idea occured to me of a charity/foundation who's sole purpose would be raising money to replant the palms of Iraq. I don't know your other anonymous poster, but I echo the thought.
It seemed such a beautiful way to unite people, so purely non-partisan. The rightwingers in the US could feel good about replanting the palms of the south cut down by Sadam, the lefties could congratulate themselve on replacing the palms cut down by the soldiers. Every Iraqi could honor the Prophet's praise of trees by planting more of them.

And the trees could start growing now so that by the time actual peace and reconstruction took place, the trees would already look regal and fabulous.

Gardeners across the globe could have been hit up for donations, with collection points at every nursery/plant store.

I even had the perfect corporate sponser picked out!

And then things went to complete hell in Iraq, killing much more than my foolish palm tree dreams...

Beautiful pics. One of the few nice things remaining in Baghdad.

Yes that was the idea ...
Although things are very hard now ...

Iraqi current Government must not only work like hell to solve immediate problems but they must state ambitious positive goals for the new Iraq ...

A major effort to beautify Baghdad
can begin by getting those baby
date palms in place now ...

Every act that works toward
a positive act will negate
some of the violence ....

I believe cooler weather should be
coming to Iraq soon ... have
Iraqi ministry ask US Ambassador
for say an additional immediate
500 million (what is now pennies)
for a huge major 24 hr a day
cleanup - repair - beautification of Baghdad ... if say new work crews of 2000 people each for 3
shifts can be used to go through
Baghdad (in addition to police
and army)

I believe it can cut down on the violence and roadside bombs ...

have the nightime come alive with cleanup projects and
it will help stem car bombs ...

In metropolitan areas in US the slogan "take back the night"
is used for residents to go out at night in droves instead of staying at home and leaving the night for the criminals ...

I believe 24 hr per day work crews
involved with pro-Iraqi culture
projects throughout Baghdad can
accomplish the same thing.

In fact I do not know if it would be proper in Muslim culture but
perhaps the airport road which
everyone talked about could be renamed in an appropriate way for
those who have died ... and a new
date palm planted in honor
of each person who died.

Rubin's a little lightweight to start a riot with. Throwing schoolyard insults back and forth does not a good debate make ...
